Unit X is a collaborative project that all students from Manchester School of Art participate in. It groups students from multi disciplinary subjects together, and teaches the importance of collaboration in the work place. I chose to work on the 'Wonky' project, a project lead by Hallmark Cards that asked us to explore the themes of 'greetings' and 'communications'.
As a group we started exploring places we communicate with daily and all agreed that we spent a lot of our days on the infamous Manchester Magic Bus. A student 'cheap' bus route that runs from Fallowfield to uni... From this we started recording conversations, expressions, signs, fabrics and collecting material found on our bus journeys. We decided that we wanted to highlight the beauty of everyday conversation that can be seen as mundane or insignificant.
From these manipulations and conversations I started making stickers and placing the snippets of text back into the bus journey. Aiming to amuse people through the very language I had observed.
Final Outcome: risograph printed zine with hand stitched screen printed manipulation and collected materials. Exploring the language of the infamous Manchester Magic Bus. Aimed at encouraging conversation and highlighting the beauty of everyday conversations.
